Kill Flash with Click2Flash - Mac Tips Daily! #400

I  love the web, but there are some things about it that really annoy me. The most prominent thing is content made from Adobe Flash.  You've seen it - as soon as you get to a website a video starts playing automatically, an ad superimposes over the content you are trying to see, all kinds of annoying things like that.

While flash is great for these things, it also decreases how fast you can load a web page. In fact, poorly encoded flash can even crash your web browser.

Click2Flash to the rescue.

Essentially it is a plug-in that will allow you to block flash content in Safari.  When there is something you want to see, you simply click on the area that is blocked and then it will start to play.

Mail RSS Reader - Mac Tips Daily! #383

Listen to this Episode in iTunes

If you have OS X Leopard and use Mail.app, you have a fantastic RSS reader built right into it. It's very useful for keeping all of your favorite websites RSS feeds into one app you will never forget to launch -- email.

First, you need a site to get the subscription from. BTW, subscription only means that new content will be delivered to you automatically. It's rare an RSS feed costs anything.

In this example, I'd be remiss if I didn't use thinkmac.net.

1. If you are using Safari for this tip, continue on. Otherwise, launch Safari and come back to this page.

2. Look at the right hand side of the screen and I have a red icon that says 'Subscribe RSS'. At other sites, it will look different, but usually there is an Orange RSS icon or XML icon to choose.
