Mail RSS Reader - Mac Tips Daily! #383

If you have OS X Leopard and use Mail.app, you have a fantastic RSS reader built right into it. It's very useful for keeping all of your favorite websites RSS feeds into one app you will never forget to launch -- email.

First, you need a site to get the subscription from. BTW, subscription only means that new content will be delivered to you automatically. It's rare an RSS feed costs anything.

In this example, I'd be remiss if I didn't use thinkmac.net.

1. If you are using Safari for this tip, continue on. Otherwise, launch Safari and come back to this page.

2. Look at the right hand side of the screen and I have a red icon that says 'Subscribe RSS'. At other sites, it will look different, but usually there is an Orange RSS icon or XML icon to choose.

Create To-Dos in Mail & iCal - Mac Tips Daily! #378

In Mail.app, you can create to-do items from text in your notes or email messages. What's cool is that you can select a portion of the message and insert it into your to-do list. This is great for when you get an invoice in your email that needs paid, or anything that you need to take action on.

How to do it:

1. Open Mail

2. Select a message that has something you want to add to your to-do list. Click and drag to select the part of the text you want to add.

Ordered Lists in Mail - Mac Tips Daily! #344

mail.pngOne of the new features in Mac OS X Leopard Mail is the ability to add bulleted and numbered lists in your messages. Note: You must be using RICH text and not Plain Text to create them. It will prompt you if you are in the wrong mode.

Here's how to do it:

1. Open MAIL mail.png 2. Click on NEW MESSAGE 3. When you are ready to insert your list, go to the FORMAT menu and choose 'LISTS' and select either Bulleted or Numbered. mactips_344_2.png After entering each item, press Enter, and after you have added your last item, press Enter twice and the list will end. mactips_344_3.png

Resend Email - Mac Tips Daily! #361

Listen to this Episode Have you ever sent an email message to someone and then they said they didn't receive it? Well, it's easy to send it again with the Mail application in OS X.

Let's get to it:

1. Open 'Mail' mail.png 2. Click on your 'Sent' box and find the message you want to send again, and click on it one time to select it.

Default Email Account in Mail - Mac Tips Daily! #368

mail.pngListen to this episode Do you have multiple email account in Mail.app? Setup one to specifically be your default. 1. Go to the Mail menu and choose Preferences.

2. Click on the Composing tab and follow the diagram, and when you are done, close the window. mactips368_1-1.png Now when you click on 'NEW Message' it will default to the email account you chose.
