Folder Search Defaults - Mac Tips Daily! #395

If you have been using 10.5 Leopard , you know that when you used the search box for finding a file,  spotlight would search the whole computer. This is fine, but it can take longer. A new feature in OS 10.6 SNOW LEOPARD, you can now set a default to search just the current folder you have open in Finder.

Here is how to do it:

1. Click on the 'Finder'. 

2. Go to 'Finder -> Preferences'.

Customize Finder Labels - Mac Tips Daily! #392

You may have noticed that when you right click on a file you have a string of colors on the contextual menu.  These are customizable labels that you can add to your files. This makes it really easy to visibly identify and categorize files.

Mac Tip #13 - Applications not responding? Force them to quit!!

Sometimes the Mac crashes... not usually OS X, but sometimes Applications themselves crash.

No problem.. just 'Force Quit' the program. Here are two ways to do it.

Use the Apple Menu


or hold down COMMAND + OPTION + ESC
Each of these will bring up the currently running Applications

 
Simply choose the Application that is 'Not Responding' and Click on 'Force Quit'.If the app is still respondig, the option will be to 'Relaunch' the app.

 

One last way to do it is to Click and Hold of the app on your Dock, and when the menu pops up, it will say 'Quit'. Simply hold down 'Option' and it will change to 'Force Quit'. Choose that option.

Collect Spaces - Mac Tips Daily! #334

Click to Listen spaces.pngIn Mac OS X Leopard, it has a brand new feature called Spaces. if you aren't familiar with Spaces, it's a way to have virtual desktops where you can spread you applications out onto them. This is really useful, and can especially be helpful to people using smaller screens. Once you start spreading applications around the spaces, if you want to quickly collect all of the apps back to your main desktop, there is a quick trick for it.

How to do it:

1. Add some applications to different spaces.

mtd_334_1.jpg 2. Now activate spaces by clicking the icon on your dock, or press F8. Once Spaces appears, press the C key and release it. All of your apps will be collected into the first space. mtd_334_2.jpg

Customize the Sidebar - Mac Tips Daily! #335F

Click to Listen It's easy to customize the sidebar in Mac OS X Leopard. You can add or remove hard drives, shared computers, pre-defined folders, etc. It's also easy to restore these items when you accidentally remove them from the sidebar.

Let's get to it:
