Multiple Text Selection - Mac Tips Daily! #295

Have you ever been editing some text and needed to select different sections of it at the same time?

Many people know how to SELECT ALL or Highlight one sentence or paragraph of contiguous text. Did you know that in many Cocoa based Mac OS X programs you can select different sections of text at the same time.

Here is how to do it:

Open up a document that you want to edit. I am using TextEdit in this example.

Click and Drag over the first portion of text to select it. Then then hold down the Command key and then select the next portion you want to select.

All of the functions work as you would normally expect with selected text... such as Formatting, Copy/Paste, and so on.

Note: It may not work in all applications, you will need to just try it to see if it works.

I tried to get this to work in a few applications, but couldn't get it to work. Any ideas on what I could be doing wrong?
I see your screenshot, which clearly shows that it can be done.
Thanks

You really need to try it with Cocoa based apps. Mail.app, TextEdit, things like that. I have experienced even odd behavior with some of those.. but my advice is just play around and try it with different apps.
