Mac Tip #34 - Identify Your Optical Drive Capabilities
Thursday, June 11, 2009 at 3:02PM
You need to know what kind of drive you have in your Mac before you go off
to the store to purchase blank media. While this isn't a big issue with blank
CDs, it can be a problem for blank DVDs. There are multiple formats for blank
DVDs - see a listing HERE
Modern day Macs (the last year or so) can burn all types of DVDs, if you have a SuperDrive. But, initially, the older Macs could only burn DVD-R and DVD-RW.
Check and see what kind of capabilities you have.
Go to the Finder->About This Mac
You can see here I have a Superdrive and can Read/Write all current formats.
