Mail.app Mailbox Keyboard Shortcuts - Mac Tips Daily! #300

A quick keyboard shortcut today for your Mail.app mailboxes.

1. Open Mail.App

To switch mailboxes, simply press the appropriate shortcut below.

COMMAND - 1 Inbox
COMMAND - 3 Drafts
COMMAND - 4 Sent
COMMAND - 5 Trash
COMMAND - 6 Junk

You may be wondering about COMMAND 2. This may or may not work on your configurations... if it does, COMMAND 2 will show you the OUTBOX.

Have you ever needed to take a quick screenshot, and you don't need to save it to a file? With a little dexterity, you can do it, by modifying the screen capture keyboard shortcut. Use these shortcuts to take a screen capture and not save it to a file, but simply to your clipboard, so it can be quickly 'Pasted' into the app of your choice.

We all know you can use Expose' to show all of the open windows on your desktop. However, you can also do an expose' effect on the currently selected app, and it's respective windows. It's a great way to see what windows are open for just one application. A great feature though is to be able to cycle through the applications, and OS X Tiger makes it easy.

Keyboard shortcuts can save tons of time. I find myself using them more than I do menus & the mouse - they are just so convenient & increase my productivity. Sometimes you may not like the Mac's default shortcuts, so for the most part there is an easy way to change them.
I am going to change the 'Dictionary' shortcut from 'Command Shift D ' to 'Command D ' - I think it's a bit easier. Listen to the podcast for all of the details, but here are the basics.

First, Open 'System Preferences' 'Apple menu->System Preferences'.

Mac Tips Daily! #83 - Using the Character Palette

Keyboards can only contain so many characters. If you find yourself looking for the command symbol, or maybe mathematical Pi, or even some Korean. You can find all of these, and more in the 'Character Palette'.

Here is how to do it:

First, open 'System Preferences' - 'Apple Menu -> System Preferences'
Then, choose 'International'

international Then choose the 'Input Menu' tab, and then add a 'checkmark' to the 'Character Palette' option, and then you can close the windows.
