Every time you take a photo with a digital camera, it store some information about that image. The info is called EXIF (exif stands for Exchangeable Image File Format) and a is a standard for storing interchange info. Most digital cameras today support this information.
This information contains certain elements that can be useful.
For example, it contains the original date & time, image size, the name, what kind of camera was used, the exposure settings, such as the aperture, Shutter speed, focal length, and a whole lot more.
