Review: Digital Photography - The Missing Manual

Digital Photography is one of the easiest tech fields for anyone to jump into. Since cameras have been around for what seem like, forever, it's hard to find anyone who is intimidated by them. Everyone knows how to take a picture. Look through the view finder, instruct subjects to say 'cheese', and press the button. Pretty simple. The problem is, not everyone knows how to take a great picture, or what to do with it when they do.
This is where 'Digital Photography: The Missing Manual' comes in. It's a great book by experts Chris Grover and Barbara Brundage. As we go into the holidays, digital cameras are on many wish lists, and even if you already have a camera, this full color book will definitely enhance your skills. Mac or PC, this book takes an approach that will help you choose the best camera for you & get high quality results from it. READ MORE »
Review: Real World Mac Maintenance and Backups

Have you backed up lately? Come on, be honest. I haven't either, and I am going to regret it. I enjoy using my Mac so much, I hate the time it takes me to backup my system. I had an extremely bad incident last year where I accidentally deleted thousands of files: images, music, documents, and most importantly - my Quicken file. I didn't have a recent backup of any of them and it was quite devastating to lose it all.
Luckily Mac expert Joe Kissel is here to remind us what to backup, when to do it, and what methods are available. In addition to that, he also instructs us on the needed maintenance that is needed to keep your Mac running trouble-free with his new book Real World Mac Maintenance and Backups. READ MORE »
Review: Mac OS X Help Line, Tiger Edition

We all have problems with out Macs, whether we know it or not. Some appear on the surface and make themselves known. Others are behind the scenes and can be hard to diagnose. If you don't mind delving into the forums, apple technical docs, and other online resources, you can usually find a solution. However, I prefer to walk over to the bookshelf and pull down a manual that will tell me the technical stuff I need to do to cure what ails my Mac.
There are plenty of reference manuals for Mac OS X, but none of them I have see come close to Mac OS X Help Line, Tiger Edition. Written by Ten Landau and Dan Frakes, well known and trusted Mac experts for years. READ MORE »
