Well folks, I finally bought an iPhone. I'm loving it. I started my second semester of grad school this week and about half way through, realized I could really use some digital assistance. So, I'll end up paying Sprint some money but after using Mobile Me to sync a bunch of new contacts, to two Macs and the iPhone, I was totally sold. I think it's well worth the $99 price, to be able to sync the tiny details of my life.

So far my favorite apps from the apps store are: WhitePages, Enigmo, Checklist and UrbanSpoon. There are so many more I hope to try though. Feel free to post your favorites in the comments. I'd love to hear what apps everyone likes.

After setting up my phone and getting a few apps, the next thing I did was make a few ringtones. I didn't buy any from iTunes, because I had a bunch of songs in my own library I wanted to use. [Here's where I insert a warning about how using songs you own, in a way not intended may violate copyright, feel free to debate that elsewhere]

Here's Jonathan's post about making ringtones in Garage Band.
I actually did something similar in iTunes. I had a blast doing it and assigning various friends and family appropriate songs.

Next, I'll be checking out some cases. Currently, I'm using the DLO jam jacket with screen protectors. It fits snugly and gives a nice textured edging on the phone.

I was lucky to not have to buy a new car adapter. My DLO car adapter doesn't work, but my iGo power system [review here] works in the car and from the wall.

All in all, I'm very pleased with my new iPhone. It seems to be working well, despite all the problems I've heard about the new 3G. It's already giving me better coverage than Sprint did and I'm already feeling a bit more organized.

I am also going to buy the iPhone. I have been looking forward to it for monhts, and finally it's available in Norway.

It's fairly expensive, but I just have to have it :)

I am looking forward to read your reviews of the applications.

Cheers,
Jens

I don't know if you have looked into the settings much, but be sure your phone has the software update 2.02. It's the most recent one, and it speeds things up significantly than the initial launch release. Also, it helps keep some of the applications from crashing -- which happens often.

Good luck and enjoy that phone!

Well welcome to the iPhone Apple world!
Please wipe your feet first. ;-)

Best "free" app is by Apple called "Remote." Let's you use your iPhone as a remote control for any and all Mac's on your WiFi network.

You can get free ringtones at MacMost:

Or great pay weekly service at RingtoneFeeder:
http://www.ringtonefeeder.com/

This should start you off great with your new iPhone.

Definitely be on the lookout for that new 3G update. Steve Jobs said there would be one released in September. Perhaps when the new iPod ship.

Another student buying an iPhone, eh. Shouldn't you be working on studying, instead of playing games on a phone?

Just playing devils advocate. I have one too. Enjoy!
