Holiday Mailing Labels!

Here's why I love my Mac. I printed address labels for my Christmas card list and even though I didn't quite remember how to do it, it only took a few minutes.
I once tried to help a friend do her cards from her Outlook address book and there's this whole merging and sorting and whatever you have to do in Office. It still took a few tries and a lot longer than a few minutes.

So here's how it's done. Open your Address Book. If you haven't already started a 'Christmas List' Group, then you might do that now. (If you're like me, you have co-workers who are just e-mail address and rogue cousins, who can't keep an address). Just press the '+' under groups, label it and go to your main address list. Scroll through and drop the address cards you want on the list. It makes copies for you.

Now select your 'Christmas List' Group, so it's highlighted in blue (Tiger, may be dark grey). Now go to the 'File' menu and go to 'Print'. When the print screen comes up, you'll see a preview of how it might look. On the right side of the window, you'll see a 'style' drop down menu, that includes choices like 'envelope, mailing labels, lists, pocket address book'. I chose 'mailing labels'.

With the 'Label' button highlighted, you can edit what to print on your labels- home or work addresses, companies, countries. If you click the 'Layout' button you'll see layout choices. If you've got a pack of Avery labels from the local drug store, find your label style number in the pull down menu. If you're printing envelopes, you can tweak the settings and watch the preview.

Hey you're ready to print! This is always the hard part, I can never remember which way to face my label sheets, so I usually print on the wrong side the first time!

How easy is that?

This is a good tip, but I can never get my labels to come out centered properly with any of the store bought labels. I assume it's a printer issue, but it's faster to just write them by hand than to mess with that darn epson.
