Apple Redesigns Mac Notebooks
At Tuesday's Apple event, they introduced a set of newly constructed and refined Mac notebooks.
"Traditionally notebooks are made from multiple parts. With the new MacBook, we've replaced all of those parts with just one part -- the unibody," said Jonathan Ive, Apple's senior vice president of Industrial Design. "The MacBook's unibody enclosure is made from a single block of aluminum, making the new MacBook fundamentally thinner, stronger and more robust with a fit and finish that we've never even dreamed of before."
The new Macbook line is ditching the integrated Intel graphics that previous model has. The new line features NVIDIA GeForce 9400M, that will deliver up to 5x processing performance over the previous MacBook and MacBook Air models.
Other MacBook highlights:
- Each member of the new MacBook family features LED-backlit instant-on displays.
- Glass multi-touch trackpad.
- all metal enclosure
- Offered in two models. 2.0 GHz Macbook, 160 GB HD, and a higher end 2.4 GHz MacBook w/ 250GB HD and Backlit keyboard.
Classic MacBook
If you love the all white classic Macbook and it's Intel GMA x3100 Graphic chipset, you can still get it... for a reduced price of $999. Thankfully it comes with a SuperDrive, and I could find no trace of them even offering a Combo drive in this model.
MacBook Pro updates
New MacBook Pros are just as beautiful and a little bit heavier.
The 15-inch model starts at $1,999, and it offers TWO (count em' - TWO) graphic chipsets. The NVIDIA GeForce 9400M is embedded on the mainboard, and the NVIDIA GeForce 9600M as a discrete part. If you need a turbo graphics mode, you switch the the 9600M, but you do lose some battery life. If you use the 9400M, you can get an estimated 5 hours of battery life. Four with the 9600M enabled.
You also get a 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, with 3MB L2 Cache, LED Backlit 15" display, and 2GB of DDR3 Memory. Also standard is a 250GB HD and a slot-loading Super Drive.
The 15" is also available in a slightly upgraded version, for another $500.
The 17" MacBook Pro is using the same Chassis design as before, and is only offering minor improvements. The screen resolution is being bumped up from 1680x1050 to 1920x1200, and still offering options for Glossy or Matte screens. They slightly bumped up standard HD and RAM to 4GB and 320GB respectively.
Give yourself a treat and watch the video of how these beautiful machines are made!
