Review: MacCase Sleeve for 15.4 inch MacBook Pro

Rounding out the MacCase reviews is the MacCase Pro Sleeve Stealth - Custom sleeve for the 15.4 inch MacBook Pro

The folks at MacCase were also kind enough to send me one of their brand new sleeves that custom fit Apple's new MacBook Pro 15.4 inch model. It's designed just like the one that came in the MacPack Combo, except for one thing. It's all Black - Stealth Black, as they have named it. Currently, they are available in this 'Stealth Black' , or in a 'Pure Silver' model (the silver name isn't as catchy as 'stealth').

These cases are attractive and have the signature MacCase transparent window so you can show off your Apple Logo. On the reverse side, you have the mesh window for cooling down your MacBook. As any owner of a MacBook Pro 15 inch knows, heat is an issue, so any help you can provide for cooling these machines down is mandatory.

Inside the sleeves is a soft velvety padded fabric that will keep your Mac scratch free. You don't have to worry about zippers scratching up your machine either, because the flap that covers the end of the case is outfitted with a tough strip of velcro.

While I like these sleeves, I would like to see a variation on where you insert your Mac. All of the sleeves I have tested in recent memory have been made for holding your Mac in a vertical bag. You can open the sleeve and take out your Mac, without removing the whole thing from the backpack. I would like to see a sleeve with a horizontal flap, in case I am going to use it with a non-vert backpack, such as a messenger bag. No gripes with this sleeve in particular, it's just something I would like to see manufacturers consider.

Conclusion:

The MacCase sleeves offer a nice value for protecting your expensive notebook. They are custom fitted to fit specific Macs, so they offer several choices, depending on what your needs are. When I checked their web site, they are currently offering a special deal that you may want to check out. They are in the process of making a sleeve to fit the new MacBook 13.3 inch notebook. They don't have the sleeves ready yet, so they are offering to send you the 14 inch model, and when the correct sleeve for your MacBook comes in, they will send that to you as well, for no additional cost. That's a pretty good deal -- two for one!

They are even expanding the color selection, so you can order an 'all white' or 'all black'. If you don't need the MacPack Combo, that comes with the sleeve, you should pick one of these up to give your notebook some extra protection in your existing backpack.
