Since tomorrow is 'Easter', I figured you may to try some 'Easter Eggs' on Mac OS X.

If you aren't familiar, Easter Eggs are found in movies, computer games, etc.. just things the developers put in for fun,

but the casual user will never know about them. Here are a few to try on Mac OS X.

Some of these you will need the 'Terminal' application. You can find it via GO->Utilities, and choose terminal.

Dates in History - Copy and paste this command into the terminal:

cat /usr/share/calendar/calendar.history

Lord of the rings - Copy and paste this command into the terminal:

cat /usr/share/calendar/calendar.history | grep "LOTR"

Nowhere weather - Open up the weather widget on your Dashboard. now, hold down Option and the Command keys and click the mouse on the widget. The town will turn to 'Nowhere' and it will cycle through all of the different types of weather.

Tetris-1

Reverse Video - this is way cool, and a good practical joke.

Press 'Command' 'Option' 'Control' '8' all at the same time. Repeat to take away the effect.

Old school text game - Copy and paste this into the terminal: emacs -batch -l dunnet

Terminal Games - This is pretty cool, I never knew this was here! Copy and paste this into terminal:

ls /usr/share/emacs/21.2/lisp/play

Now, see all of the files, notice 'Tetris', 'Doctor', etc. these are all games. To play them, from the terminal, type in 'emacs'.

Once emacs opens, press 'Esc' and 'X' at the same time. Then type the name of the game. You may have to play around to get your timing just right on pressing 'Esc' and 'X'.

Mail.app developers - Go to the Applications folder. Control Click on the 'Mail' icon. Choose 'Show Package'. Look in the Content/Resources folder. Find the senders.tiff file, and double click on it to open it with preview.

You can find more of these at the 'Easter Egg Archive'

Happy Easter!
