300th Show Winners - Day 1 - Picturesque
To win our contest, you simply needed to send us your memories about your first computer. I love thinking about my first computer... it really brings back the good ole' days.
Thanks go out to Acqualia.com for providing us with their great Application 'Picturesque'.
Our Winners:
Ezra Balaraj from Singapore
My first computer was an APPLE ][ E. It looked exactly like a typewriter! The beauty of this machine was its beige colour. What impressed me most was all those simple games I was able to play on it. What took the cake was the fact that I was able to install a 300 baud Apple ][ e modem card into one of the two or three slots made available to surf/visit the various local Bulletin Boards which started operations then. It was really an exciting experience. By the way did you know that since the technology was new then I had to send the modem card to the local Telephone Authority for them to approve its use on the local telephone lines? Now I am a proud owner of an iMac Intel C2D with a 20 inch screen. Way to go don't you think?
Andy Rudkin from Leicester, England
My first computer was an Amiga 500. My parents wouldn't stump up the £400, so I spent months saving £9 a week from a paper round I had. By the time I got to Christmas I had only saved £300 and was resigned to having to wait for another 5 months until I had saved enough. But when I got downstairs on Christmas morning there she was! My Amiga 500... my parents had decided to reward my hard efforts of saving three quarters of the price by buying me the computer. The nest 5+ years were spent messing around with all sorts of amazing games and eventually tinkering with my first paint package Deluxe Paint II... which maybe had something to do with my career in graphic design.
Garth Shaner from Marietta, GA
My First Computer was a Franklin Ace 1200! We were the cool house on the block because we had (hold on to your hats!) 128k of ram and TWO 5.25 disk drives. And no green-screen monitor for us, oh no! We had an AMBER monitor. Way cool. I remember playing hours of Karateka, Taipan, and Beyond Castle Wolfenstein! (HALT! Kommen zie. Auz piez?) But the addiction, the sounds that still buzz in my ears are the cool, high pitched tones of earth being destroyed at the end of my laser as I ran up and down ladders gathering treasure in Lode Runner!
Stay tuned for Day 2 -- We are giving away 5 copies of 1Passwd.
