OS X 10.8.1 Mountain Lion Update


Apple has released the first update to Mountain Lion, 10.8.1. You can download it by going to Apple menu -> Software Update.

This update includes general operating system fixes that improve the stability and compatibility of your Mac, including fixes that:
    Resolve an issue that may cause Migration Assistant to unexpectedly quit
    Improve compatibility when connecting to a Microsoft Exchange server in Mail
    Address an issue playing audio through a Thunderbolt display
    Resolve an issue that could prevent iMessages from being sent
    Address an issue that could cause the system to become unresponsive when using Pinyin input
    Resolve an issue when connecting to SMB servers with long names
    Address a issue that may prevent Safari from launching when using a Proxy Automatic Configuration (PAC) file
    Improve 802.1X authentication with Active Directory credentials

iOS 5.1 Update Now Available

iOS5 is now available for updating on your iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad. It offers several new features, and it's a recommended upgrade.

Here's what you get:

  1. Japanese language support for Siri
  2. Photos can now be deleted from Photo Stream
  3. Camera shortcut now always visible on Lock Screen for iPhone 4S, iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS and iPod touch (4th generation)
  4. Camera face detection now highlights all detected faces
  5. Redesigned Camera app for iPad
  6. Genius Mixes and Genius playlists for iTunes Match subscribers
  7. Audio for TV shows and movies on iPad optimized to sound louder and clearer

  10. Addresses bugs affecting battery life
  11. Fixes an issue that occasionally caused audio to drop for outgoing calls

We had no trouble updating via Over The Air, but we have heard some reports of folks trying to do this update via iTunes at this time.




Apple Releases 10.7.3 Software Update and Airport Utility

Apple has released an update for the Airport Utility and also an update to 10.7.3 for Mac OS X Lion.

Regarding Airport Utility Update

Use AirPort Utility to set up and manage your Wi-Fi network and AirPort base stations, including AirPort Express, AirPort Extreme, and Time Capsule. See a graphical overview of your Wi-Fi network and devices. Change base station and network settings, or manage advanced features such as security modes, wireless channels, and more.

Regarding 10.7.3

The 10.7.3 update is recommended for all OS X Lion users and includes general operating system fixes that improve the stability, compatibility, and security of your Mac including fixes that:

  • Address issues when using smart cards to log into OS X

VMware Fusion Updates to 4.1

VMware Fusion has updated to 4.1 - offering many fixes and improvements. A necessary update, as the reviews keep pointing to Parallels as the premier VM for running on OS X Lion.

iOS 5.01 Upgrade Available Now


Battery life issues be gone. We hope. Apple has just released the first upgrade to iOS 5, taking it to iOS 5.01.  This can be done via OTA (Over the air) or you can connect to iTunes and do a 'Check for updates'.  While battery life is key, I'm kind of excited that they decided to add the multi-tasking gestures to the original iPad. Thanks Apple.

To force your iOS device to do an over the air, connect it to power and then go to System Settings -> General -> Software Update

This update contains improvements and other bug fixes including:
